Edit Shape Type Dialog

Edit Shape Type dialog

By defining a shape type, you can control the way shapes are displayed on the map.

Type
Enter a name for this category of shapes. Choose a short name that describes the real-world object that this category represents.
Sample
As you change Map Display settings, the Sample pane will show a preview of how the shape will look on the map.

Line Style

The controls in the Line Style section change the appearance of the lines connecting shape waypoints on the map.

Pattern
Choose a pattern for the line.
Opacity
To allow some map detail to show through behind a wide line, set the opacity lower.
Color
Choose the main color for the line.
Width
Enter a width for the line.
Border
Adding a border to a wide line can help the shape stand out on the map.

Fill

The controls in the Fill section change the interior of closed shapes on the map.

Pattern
Choose a pattern for the closed shape's interior. Choosing a pattern other than None will create a closed shape and the interior of the shape will be filled with the selected pattern.
Opacity
To allow some map detail to show through behind the closed shape, set the opacity lower.
Color
Choose the color for the closed shape's interior.

Text

The controls in the Text section change the appearance of the shape's label on the map.

Importance
To prevent the map from getting cluttered, ExpertGPS makes shape labels smaller as you zoom out. The labels of shapes with a higher Importance will be larger on the map, and will continue to be displayed as the map is zoomed further out. If you want ExpertGPS to always display the shape label at the same size, regardless of map scale, select an Importance of 0.
Font
Choose between a serif and non-serif font for the shape label on the map.
Case
To display all labels in capital letters, choose Uppercase.
Style
Use Italic for lakes and rivers, or Bold text to make your label stand out.
